John J. Audubon Bridge

The John J. Audubon Bridge is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere with a 1,583 foot main span length.  The bridge crosses the Mississippi River, near St. Francisville, Louisiana.  Illumination Arts’ lighting design (not yet installed) takes a subtle approach, utilizing low wattage, white light to accent both the fan-shaped cable arrays and the tiered central pylon.   Soft uplighting contained within the structure of the pylon creates an illuminated transitional gateway for bridge traffic while respecting local ecological considerations and protecting the night sky.  Named for the renowned naturalist artist, the John J. Audubon Bridge will radiate a gentle power and beauty that is harmoniously integrated with the local landscape in accordance with Audubon’s principals of preservation.
