Embodying the Sacred in Yoruba Art

“For the Yoruba, one of Africa's oldest and most influential cultures, art and spirituality are often intertwined.  Works of art give visual form to the divine and inspire religious devotion.  In turn, they are empowered by spiritual forces.” – The Newark Museum

At this intersection of art and spirituality lies the collection of Yoruba art on display in a temporary exhibit at the Newark Museum.  The intimacy and significance of these objects was emphasized by the lighting, which was used to highlight the individuality of each piece and separate it from the surrounding space.
